Yusei is highly technical when it comes to computers and machines, able to build and program both at an expert level from pieces of junk scavenged from Satellite’s many recycling plants. He not only constructed his own D-Wheel from scrap parts, twice, but both were able to outperform every known D-Wheel at the time of their turnouts. His skills at programming allowed him to create a computer program to jam the criminal mark on Rally (though that was not thought to be a difficult task by the government), hack into Security and Neo Domino City computers, and both refurbish and customize his personal Duel Disk with additional tools and functions that are decidedly off market enhancements. His abilities tend to fall until the nebulous category of "mechanic" or "engineer" that encompasses a wide variety of skills miraculously meshing together in that typical badass shonen protagonist style.

Along with the ability to construct D-Wheels, Yusei is an expert at riding them (and other motorcycle-based vehicles by proxy), evidenced numerous times throughout his Duels and races. His sheer skill at handling D-Wheels allows him to ride in difficult terrain, weave through moving obstacles, keep his balance while navigating winding tracks and corridors, make 90 degree turns inside buildings, ramp over gaps, gun enough speed to circle the ceiling of a pipeline, drop several stories down an elevator shaft and hit the ground driving, and pull out of spins and fishtails after taking damage from other racers.

Yusei appears to have expertise in both computer science and physics; Aki once came to request his assistance on the subject and Yusei later takes over his parents' job as head scientist overseeing the completion of the Moment project. He's no slouch in other engineering departments either, though Yusei tends to focus more on the physics-related side of engineering. This suggests that, despite living in the slum city of Satellite, he still managed to gain an education through self-schooling or tutoring.

Outside of academia, Yusei possesses a very resourceful mind, both in and out of playing Duel Monsters. His specializes in using what he has on hand to the utmost potential, preferring not to change out his deck as often as other Duelists and instead opting to master and hone the tactics he already utilizes. Yusei’s often reluctant to discard anything due to his philosophy of everything having worth and chooses to believe in his cards to work out a win, rather than trade them for something else that seems better or stronger. Not just for solo effort, as Team 5D's team captain, Yusei displays himself to be a very capable strategist and tactician for team plays, able to see through his opponent's plans and devising plans for his own team. He is also an adept teacher, shown when he helped Aki get her Riding Dueling License.

On top of his intelligence, Yusei possesses plenty of physical skills. He’s a very proficient street fighter, as evident from how he effortlessly took out two trained and armed security guards right outside Godwin’s personal office, and when he pointedly swept the legs out from under Himuro, a man much larger man than him. His reaction speeds are honed and instinctive, able to recover from being blown out of a window by grabbing the railing outside. He also has great skill with aiming, as he not only was able to throw grapple tools from his Duel Disk onto the connection joint under other Duel Disks, but can both catch and throw Duel Monster cards from long distances, shown when he caught and returned his Stardust Dragon card to Jack who was on the highway above him. However, his physical prowess is still limited by being human; once he started fighting against Psychic Duelists, he was rather quickly outmatched by their powers, trapped on the defense against summoned fireballs, psychic swords, razored petals, and other phenomena. That said, he was able to deftly parry and block sword blows with his Duel Disk, suggesting he’s battled against bladed weapons before.

Yusei's Signer mark gives him other powers granted by the Crimson Dragon. Through the mark, Yusei can locate other Signers via an almost compass-like sense if he focuses enough, even if the other Signer is moving. He’s also alerted when the other Signers are engaged in battle or facing certain dangers. Strangely, the mark allows for a limited ability to see some spatial distortions that most humans can’t see, though this isn’t always active. When one Signer’s Dragon Birthmark activates, they all do, indicating the deep connection between the Signers. However, this interconnected sense comes at a price, as the birthmark’s activation results in the mark glowing brightly and throbbing pain in the Signer’s arm.

The Signer mark also shields the Signer and any companions close to them from harm or other ill effects, normally by producing a transparent crimson orb around the area to block out natural and supernatural phenomena. So far, the shield has been shown to protect the Signer from falling debris, fire and smoke, soul-absorbing miasma, and altercation or falsification of history and timelines, even preserving the Signer’s original memories while the history around them is being overwritten. Other abilities of the Crimson Dragon mark are more related to the Dragons of the Signers during Duels, such as Yusei being able to effectively utilize his ace card monster, Stardust Dragon, in a number of ways during Duels, but that ends up getting into a lot of Yu-Gi-Oh! jargon that probably won’t come up in any non-related thread.
✨ Deck
↬
Yusei plays a "Junk" Deck. Many of the cards he uses in his deck tend to be a constant in his duels, to the point that those who know him very well say his strategies have become played out and he’s starting to get predictable because he has been using the same basic strategies for a long time. Despite this, Yusei is still known for his genius dueling style, able to quickly analyze and comprehend his opponent's tactics and formulate an effective counter strategy by taking advantage of whatever cards he currently has access to. While he normally starts slow to better gauge his opponent, he is shown able to build off his previous moves to methodically calculated well-ahead with a setup for bigger combos later.

Thematically, many of Yusei's cards lean towards being either Warrior or Machine-Type monsters. He also relies heavily on "Junk"-themed cards like "Scrap-Iron Scarecrow" and "Junk Barrage", as most of his initial cards were obtained from Satellite trash heaps after residents of Neo Domino City threw them out prior to the series. Fitting with the motif, Yusei's cards generally appear as rather weak in ATK and/or low in Levels with limited usage, but combine together for various innovative tactics. He also makes regular use of recycling his cards, either returning them to his hand/field or activating their effects from the Graveyard. To compensate for most of his monsters having limited ATK, he also uses cards that focus on Burn effects, such as "Junk Barrage" and "Cosmic Blast".

Yusei’s main tactic is to Summon various Synchro Monsters, most often "Junk Warrior" with various support cards for them. To aid him he relies on the "Synchron" archetype, enabling him to Summon various Synchro Monsters in a single turn as his tendency towards low-level non-Synchro Monsters gives him more fine control over which Synchro Monster he can Summon at a given time. His basic strategy usually entails swarming the field to either build off his previous monsters to build up his lower-level monsters. He has also occasionally relied on other Summoning methods, including Tribute Summon and Fusion Summon. His Deck also contains a large array of Trap Cards, which he uses in Turbo Duels to supplement his Speed Spells. Even his Standing Decks tend to contain a higher amount of Trap Cards than most other characters.

His ace card, "Stardust Dragon", aids him in a more defensive style. At the same time, he originally kept it in reserve, using it during special occasions and as a backup plan. From the WRGP arc onwards, he puts much more emphasis on its Summoning, even using more cards the exploit its presence and effect. He has periodically gained more powerful variations of this card, including include "Majestic Star Dragon", "Shooting Star Dragon", "Stardust Dragon/Assault Mode" and "Dragon Knight Draco-Equiste". His strongest card, "Shooting Quasar Dragon", represents the pinnacle of his Synchro Summoning tactics.
